VOTE FOR KM.COM

From KM.com,

You might remember that, in 2007, keanemusic.com was crowned Best Official Website at the BT Digital Music Awards. The following year, we narrowly missed out on winning it again, finishing second. And we couldn't have done it without your votes.

Now, after a break in 2009, the award is back - and we'd very much appreciate your help in trying to win it again.

If you like what we do with the official site (and our social sites and the KWN etc) then we'd be very grateful if you'd vote for us to win, and help us regain our title! You can vote once a day, if you'd like to.

Thank you.

TIMES: KEANE ARE COOL AT LAST

"Just as I’m realising that the people who laugh most at Keane are Keane, in comes their tour manager. “Just a quick word before you go on stage, lads.” Everybody groans. “No really, I just want to tell you that you’re my favourite rock band in the whole world. And because I love you so much, please, please will you play my favourite song for me tonight.” Rice-Oxley is rolling his eyes, muttering to himself quietly, “Every night. Every single night.” Meanwhile Chaplin wonders which favourite song he wants: “Clocks?” Nope. “Chasing Cars?” Not that one. “I want the one about the weather!” demands the tour manager, “you know, Why Does It Always Rain on Me!” Everybody laughs at the old gag, because these three songs are by Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Travis respectively, musical classmates accused of the same middle-of-the-road safeness as Keane.

That particular joke may be drying up, too, though, since even Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol has told Keane that he thought they were brave to release Spiralling. The band were initially unsure about it. Rice-Oxley, who writes all the songs for Chaplin to sing, says: “I played the demo to the others and they said ‘Ye-ah, sounds like it could be good’, which is Keanespeak for ‘it doesn’t sound very good at all’. It felt a bit scary I suppose. But I love all that stuff: that big snare sound is from Man in the Mirror [Michael Jackson], and the song was inspired by When Doves Cry [Prince] and that song, Magic Dance, from Labyrinth, which I love. It took a while to convince everyone that it wasn’t just a bad joke.”

MAKE YOUR OWN 3D GLASSES

From KM.com,

As you know, on the evening of April 2nd Keane are making history with the world’s first ever live webcast in 3D. Special Keane 3D glasses have been given away with 7-inch copies of Better Than This. But if you'd like to make your own, then we've knocked together this template for you (to print it, right-click the instructions, then select "view image" or "show picture", then print).

Email us a picture of how you get on to ontour@keanemusic.com...

And if you really can't find any coloured cellophane, then one alternative is to use felt tip/fibre pens to colour a red and a blue patch on a clear plastic CD case, then look through that - not perfect, but it should work!

TIM SINGS YOU A SONG!!!

From KM.com,

Well, here's a Friday treat for you. It's Mr Tim Rice-Oxley performing a song for your delectation. Here's what Tim has to say about it:

We had a couple of days off in Rio at the end of our wonderful Latin American tour. In between swimming in the sea and drinking coconut water on the beach I thought it would be nice to record a cover version to keep my musical brain ticking over. It's pretty rough and ready but I really loved doing it and I hope you enjoy it.

Tim

what can I say? OMG! He's amazing and these days I seem to think more about him and being SOOO in love with him :D

LIVE 3D WEBCAST ON APRIL 2ND

From KM.com,

On 2nd April 2009 Keane will make history with the world’s first ever live webcast in 3D. The band will record the live session at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios, the home of The Beatles' historic first ever satellite broadcast, and will feature live mixed graphics from world-renowned digital artists D-Fuse.

“We believe that the tradition of rock'n'roll is to always innovate, to bring new ideas and concepts into music. We are therefore incredibly excited about the prospect of being the first band to beam our music live in 3D over the internet. Over the last couple of years, our website has become a hive of artistic creativity for us and our fans. On April 2nd at 8pm (UK time), hundreds of thousands of those fans will be able don their 3D glasses and watch us play some songs from our new record, Perfect Symmetry. We will be broadcasting from Abbey Road, scene of the first ever live satellite broadcast - The Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’ - and we hope that this will become a similarly powerful new way for music to connect people all over the world.” (Tom, Tim and Richard)

3D glasses are available from the brand new keanemusic.com shop with the 7-inch of the new single Better Than This, which is out on 16th March. (We're also hoping to show you how to make your own 3D glasses.)

The audio from the gig will also be simultaneously broadcast live on-air on newly launched national station Absolute Radio. The show will then be available to watch on-demand via km.com afterwards.

TIM'S OPINION ABOUT KATZENJAMMER

From KM.COM,

We're very pleased to announce a second support act for the upcoming O2 Arena shows in London. Norwegian band Katzenjammer will be opening procedings on both nights. We called Tim to ask why:

"They supported us in Oslo last year and, to be honest, we didn't know much about them before that. But they were really nice people and they turned out to be the best support band we had for the whole tour. They're very unique; they use a lot of different instruments - everything from a dustbin to a trumpet. They have an unhinged energy about them, with a real sense of fun and they seemed determined to get people dancing and having a good time. So that's why we decided to invite them over for the O2 shows. I'm really looking forward to seeing them again."

For more info on the band, and to hear some tunes, check out their MySpace here.
