KEANE IN TARATATA!!

mariep wrote this in the OB: I made a translation from French to English of the little review of their career...

5 years have passed since their debut with SOWK on the European charts. But very quickly, Tom, Tim and Richard have been critisized by the press. The journalists were saying that Keane was copying what did Coldplay. Then journalists found also that their music was too much characterless because they use piano instead of big rock guitar. But yet, they have sold 5 million of their first album H&F, which contains other huge singles like Everybody's changing. 2 years later, in 2006, their second album UTIS has been, as it came out, instantly placed on the top of the British charts, helped by the clip Is it any wonder ? with its nice melody and its fantastic clip with the cameras that turn on all directions. And in 2006 also, Keane is invited for the first time by Taratata and come telling what they are reading in their Cristal ball (bad joke from the presenter ! lol). In any case, says the presenter, what I can read in my cristal ball, even if our 3 guys are still some kids () is that they had influences very 80s, like Depeche mode from where they made the cover of Enjoy the silence. Amonsgt the other sources of inspiration for Keane, we can find Ultravox. And then, the presenter continues, on their last album, there is one song that makes immediately thinks of Ashes to ashes, from David Bowie. Another possible influence is Tears for fears, even if the guys were very young at that time. In any case, one thing for sure, is that they like very much the band The Cult, from whom they made the cover of She sells sanctuary, a song that dating from 1985. At the end of 2007, in the great tradition of the 80s Festivals for Charity, like Live Aid, Keane has supported a gig for WarChild, an organisation that helps kids victims of the wars. They made a very nice action for charity, and also a very nice cover of Under pressure. All this matters brings us to their 3rd album, Perfect symmetry, proced by another great 80s fan, Stuart Price, who worked a lot with Madonna. In UK, the album has been announced by a "robotic" clip. Until now, Keane has been not very much appreciated by American audience (), and the fact that The lovers are losing is an excellent song but with a very bad clip has not helped. Regarding the story of the clip, we could think that we are in the 80s. But we can forgiven because the song is really great. And... btw guys, with your huge passion for 80s, you surely have the impression the be born 20 years too late, no ?
